Surface Preparation

Concrete Moisture Test

To make sure the concrete floor has an appropriate moisture level , lay down 60cm x60 cm  plastic foil on the surface of the concrete floor. Using an adhesive tape, glue the sides of the foil tightly to the surface and  leave it for 24 hours. Remove the plastic foil after 24 hours. Check the appearance of the plastic foil (the side it was in contact with the concrete floor).

If water droplets are visible on the plastic foil surface or the concrete floor in the place it was covered by plastic foil turned brown , it’s an indication that the concrete floor does not have the appropriate moisture level which would allow to cover it by Epoxy coating or any coating in this case.

Removing oil and grease prior to applying epoxy coating

Oil Stain Remover  EpoxOne #1082

Heavily oiled areas covered with old stains of oils, lubricants and automotive fluids can be removed with stain remover EpoxOne # 1082. The product is ideal for the removal of the oiled  areas not  exceeding  3 m2.

If you use stain remover on already finished floors, test the stain remover on a very small area to see if the surface is resistant to stain remover by checking if there is no visible discoloration taking place in the area being tested.

Stain remover must be shed on the spot . For larger areas it should be distributed by  stiff brush or roller. Scrubbing the surface it is not required. After about 1-3 hours of drying the agent  takes the form of a white powder that needs to be removed by stiff brush or by rinsing with water.

Degreaser EpoxOne # 1081
In case of the medium oiled spots or greasy stains that occur over  a larger area (about 3 -20 m 2) it is recommended to use a degreaser EpoxOne # 1081.

Removing grease from concrete

When using a degreaser for removing stains from concrete floors or with cobblestones, a place that requires degreasing should be rinsed by water first followed by sprinkling the detergent in already wetted areas.Wait 5-10 minutes before scrubbing  thoroughly concrete using  hard brush and rinse it with a clean water. Very greasy surfaces need the process to be repeated.

Removing grease from finished surfaces
When using a degreaser on finished surfaces , dissolve  about 80g-200g of the degreaser detergent in 10 liters of water . For heavier grease and dirt  use a more concentrated degreaser. Before cleaning use the detergent solution on a small area to see if the surface is resistant to solution. Make sure that there are no visible discoloration in the test.

To clean it, use a sponge or mop.

Repairing concrete cracks

Before using epoxy floor EpoxOne should remove any loose pieces of concrete falling off and thoroughly clean the place with dust.

Remove any loose pieces of concrete and clean the area from the dust.

To fill cracks, holes and gaps, we recommend using 2-component epoxy repair kit concrete floors (EpoxOne # 1060).

SURFACE PREPARATION: Areas being repair must be clean, dry and free of dust, dirt, grease and other substances. The substrate must be sound and stable. To remove grease stains, grease and dirt, use EpoxOne Oil Remover Art. # 1082 or EpoxOne Degreaser Art. # 1081.

Can A and Can B contains the appropriate amount of  substances to allow for easy mixing without the requirement to use a  weight scale in order to mix in an appropriate proportions.

Use a spatula to empty the content of can A and can B on the piece of clean cardboard or other working space to be used for mixing the contents.

Use a spatula or any other tool to mix the  ingredients thoroughly until uniform in color and consistency. The product obtained from mixing the contents of both cans should be used within 30 minutes

If you plan not to use the entire set (can A and can B), you have to use weights to accurately measure the ingredients. To do this, use a putty knife or putty sealing to remove the appropriate amount of the component from each can (example 100 g of component A + 50 g of component B) This material is easy work with and dries within 3 hours. After this time, the repaired surface can be coated with EpoxOne epoxy coating

Use epoxy putty on prepared clean and dry surfaces. Spread it evenly on the surface to be repaired using a metal or plastic spatula. After spreading ,  leave it for around 3-4 hours( (20 ° C, 60% humidity) until it hardens. After this time, apply a second layer of the repair kit If necessary  or paint it over with epoxy coating.

Adhasion test of the existing coating

Prior to using EpoxOne epoxy coating on the existing coated floor, check the adhesion of an existing coatings in the following way: using a sharp knife, cut the letter 'X', using force that will cut through the coating to the surface of the concrete. Use an adhesive tape with a width of approx. 10 cm, sticking it to the surface where it was previously marked with an "X", firmly pushing it to surface.

Then, in a quick move, tear off the tape. If more than 25% of the previous coat was removed with the tape, the existing surface does not have adequate adhesion and a new coating should not be used unless the old coating is completely removed. In this case, scrape loose coating or sandblasted floor. Otherwise, the previous coating has an appropriate adhesion and can be over coated.

Epoxy Coat Application Step

Minimum Temperatures Required

The process of curing epoxy floor at low temperatures is very slow.
We recommend that the EpoxOne Epoxy Coating application should take place at minimal ambient temperature around 8 -10 degrees Celsius and floor temperature at around at least 3 degrees Celsius above the Dew Point with the  minimum recommended temperature for about 7 days after application.

Fixing the problems with dark spots visible on freshly coated surface

If there are noticeable dark spots visible immediately after applying the epoxy coat, it is an indication of a very bad adhesion of the epoxy to the surface. These problems can occur if you use priming materials based on acrylic or any other resins which form glassy hard surface after hardening.

To solve the problem, use a sandpaper and sand the  surface layer in places where dark spots appear. After scrubbing it out, use epoxy putty knife and spread a  thin layer mixed and ready to use Epoxy Repair kit.. It is recommended to add little bit of quartz when mixing the components of the EpoxOne repair kit

It’s not recommended to sprinkle any quartz on freshly distributed layer of the EpoxOne repair kit
